Four Pillars of PHC:

Healthy Living

Healthy living is about keeping you well, rather than treating you after you become sick. When you learn to take care of your body, you are participating in a key component of primary health care – the concept of healthy living.

Healthy living encourages people to self-manage and care for themselves and recognizes how factors outside the health system influence not only our personal, but our community, well-being.

Healthy living involves the management of chronic disease, prevention of illness and injury and encourages us to take a responsibility for our own care.

Healthy living contributes not only to the health of individuals, but also to the sustainability of the health care system by helping to reduce hospital and other treatment-related costs.
