This program coordinates and
manages the communicable disease and immunization programs for the
Heartland Health Region. The Communicable Disease Coordinator (CDC)
works closely with the Medical Health Officer, Public Health Nurses, and
Public Health Inspectors to achieve the program objectives.
The CD Coordinator, along with the Medical Health Officer (MHO), has
taken a lead role in Influenza Pandemic Preparedness Planning. The
involvement of municipal representatives and Disaster Planning
Committees has been greatly appreciated.
With the number of international travellers increasing yearly as more
people go to and stay longer in developing countries, the risks for
contracting diseases is ever present and also increasing.
